A new website promotes  the "not-for-everyone" idea of living year-round on Isle au Haut, Maine

After seeing our work with Black Dinah Chocolatiers, the Isle au Haut Community Development Corporation (ICDC) came to us to design a website whose purpose was to promote the remote Maine island to potential year-round residents. They didn't want to sugar-coat the experience of living on an island, accessible only by boat, several miles from the nearest mainland town, but they also wanted to tout its strong community and showcase its spectacular natural beauty. Isle au Haut, Maine had only 40 residents when they approached Martha Cooper Design. They wanted to attract more hard-working, young entrepreneurs to the island so that it could continue to be a year-round community. After this website was launched, they reached their goal of adding two new families to the IAH population.

The look and feel of the site has a dramatic layout with an angled top navigation, reflecting the awesome scenery and weather. We designed in a slightly retro feel with the selection of typeface, color palette, and logotype, reflecting the unchanging nature of community values held closely by current residents.

The background images of the site created a rich tableau of characters and scenes which framed the information being provided.
